The new building for the Spiegel Group publishing house and the Ericuskontor, an office building, mark the eastern tip of the HafenCity in Hamburg. The proposed buildings relate to the building heights of the historic Speicherstadt and rise to an 18-story sharp-edged high-rise slab. The Spiegel building consists of two angular buildings that are facing each other and are connected by a three-storey plinth. It contains the conference center, studios and a casino. The inward tower block facades are designed with window elements twisted biaxially, whilst the outside facade consists of calm strips, which surround the complex. The inward surfaces, which due to the distortion appear facetted, primarily turn towards the city and direct the views in the direction of the HafenCity.
