A modern and ecologically sustainable commercial quarter is being created on the former factory site of the ‘Nationale Automobil-Gesellschaft’ on an area of around 100,000 square metres. The listed Hall 1 is at the centre of the new quarter and will bring it to life for visitors with numerous events and restaurants. Design-defining historical elements made of hard-fired clinker brick at the north gate and the entrance to the head building will be preserved and give pedestrians an impression of the building's original state. Inside, the hall is characterised by the steel supporting structure with steel trusses and recessed dormers for lighting. Two simple, single-storey new structures at the ends of the hall provide space for the ancillary rooms required for the events. In their appearance, the fixtures create a respectful contrast to the existing building and create identity. The fixtures are sustainably constructed in timber using materials reclaimed from the site and should also be able to be dismantled again later in a recyclable manner.
