The SIDE is a hotel in the 5-star category, located in immediate proximity to Hamburg’s city centre. The building evolves from two interlocking elements – a rear building with a green natural stone cladding and a glass wing at the front with two cantilevered suite levels. The double-skin façade serves as noise and climate buffer. A 30-metre high atrium is laid out in the space in-between – the centre and foyer of the hotel. Robert Wilson (stage set and lighting designer) developed a vibrant lighting concept for the staging of this interior space. On the ground floor, the restaurant and bar are arranged around the foyer. On the gallery level, three event rooms for up to 300 people are positioned around the atrium. The upper levels accommodate 168 hotel rooms. Through minimalistic use of matrial and detailing, and in close cooperation with the Designer Matteo Thun, a symbiosis of architecture and Design was achieved.
