In a total of four competitions, concepts for the conversion of "Schuppen 3" in Bremen's Überseestadt, one of the largest harbour revitalisation projects in Europe, were sought. Our design for the head area of the 400-metre-long warehouse building from the 1950s and the adjacent outdoor spaces was awarded first prize. The shed will be shortened to a 140-metre-long segment and extended by a "floating", circular attic storey with an inner courtyard in the centre. In combination with this expressive, sheet copper-clad addition and a new 15-storey residential tower, a striking urban ensemble is being created which, in addition to offices and commercial space, will also accommodate a day care centre for children.
