The massive silhouette of the new staggered 8- to 11-storey building is the concluding component of district development along the highly frequented traffic axis between Hamburg’s city centre and the HafenCity. After the completion of the ADAC Headquarters in the first building phase, the four-star superior hotel was implemented on the northern part of the site in the second construction phase according to plans by Störmer Murphy and Partners. The hotel provides 254 rooms and suites. The first floor accommodates conference rooms, a restaurant and a bar. A wellness and fitness area as well as a second bar affording views across Hamburg’s inner city are located on the 11th floor, while the hotel rooms are arranged on levels 2 to 10. The façade design makes reference to the dynamic of the location and the image of the traffic flow passing by. An animated play of varying shadows, which is generated through the succession, layering and depth of four different window typologies, adds rhythm to the façade elevations.
