The Japanese Olympus Group is planning to build a headquarters for the European, Middle East and African economic area in Hamburg's Hammerbrook district. The property is located on a six-lane arterial road. Office buildings of varying quality, materiality, and height representing various construction eras characterise the district. A solid and monolithic architecture marks the self-confident claim to identification and representation of a "European Headquarters" on the one hand, while on the other, it also conveys calm and constant timelessness in a heterogeneous context. The monolithic quality of the building is achieved by a dark ceramic façade. The heart of the headquarters is a large, covered atrium connecting all areas of the building. Visual connections across storeys create spatial relationships and a feeling of togetherness.
