For a former site of Deutsche Post located near the Billstedt shopping centre, privately financed rental apartments as well as subsidised student apartments are proposed. Our design of the residential complex with retail zones on the 3,600-square-metre site was awarded first prize in the competition. Up to five storeys are planned on the south and east side of the plot, and three storeys plus a recessed top floor on the north and west side. The buildings are connected by an intensively landscaped inner courtyard on top of a shared plinth. The design takes up the surrounding street alignments in a compact building and responds to the heterogeneous building structure with subtle means. The façade design with varying brick motifs supports the robust, powerful character of the architecture.
